Candle Reburning with Smoke Experiment

In this activity, a candle is first lit and then extinguished by covering it with a glass. After the candle goes out, a thin smoke continues to rise from the wick. After a while, when the glass is removed and the fire is brought to the smoke again, the flame travels through the smoke and reaches the wick and the candle burns again. Through this experiment, children make an interesting scientific discovery about combustion and the behavior of gases by observing that the smoke coming out of the candle is actually flammable candle vapor.
