Blindfolded Reaching the Goal Game - Confidence and Focus Activity

Blindfolded Reaching the Target Game is a fun and instructive educational game in which a blindfolded student tries to reach the target on the ground with the object in his hand (water bottle, etc.) with the guidance of his friends or with his own feelings. It is an excellent activity for developing empathy, collaboration, active listening and a sense of direction in the classroom and in the group.
  • Suitable Age Group: 6+ Years (Primary School and Secondary School)
  • Required Materials: Eye patch/scarf, water bottle or small object, target paper/marker
  • Key Achievements: Cooperation, active listening, sense of place, development of trust and empathy
  • Play Area: Classroom, gym or a large room

What is the Blindfolded Reaching the Goal Game?

This activity is an interactive group game that temporarily disables children's sense of sight and allows them to focus on their other senses, sense of direction and friend guidance. Children experience both leading and trusting in the direction of others.

Gains of the Activity for Children

  • Cooperation and Trust: It teaches to trust the commands of a friend and to succeed together.
  • Active Listening and Focus: It increases the ability to block out the background noise and focus only on the voice of the guide.
  • Perception of Space and Direction: The ability to calculate step distance and direction without seeing.
  • Empathy and Emotion Management: Supports staying calm and empathizing in times of uncertainty.

Materials Required for the Activity

  • 1 Eye Patch or Scarf
  • 1 Target Object: (Plastic water bottle, flask or dummy)
  • 1 Floor Target: (A4 paper, colored cardboard or target ring)

How to Implement the Activity? (Step by Step)

  1. Area Preparation: A safe, unobstructed walking path is created in the middle of the classroom and a target sheet is placed at the end point.
  2. Player Selection: A player is chosen and his eyes are covered with a soft tape. The target object is given to his hand.
  3. Guidance and Walking: The player starts walking towards the target. Optionally, classmates can show directions with commands such as "turn right", "take two steps", "stop", or the player tries to reach the target with his own feelings.
  4. Completion: The tour is completed when the player places the object in his hand on the target paper on the ground.

Different Game Variations

  • Voice Guide Mode: Only one "guide". His/her friend gives the command, and the other students watch silently to avoid making noise.
  • Silent Navigation: Instead of giving directions, classmates only guide them by keeping the tempo (clapping) as they get closer to the target.
  • Race Against Time: The aim is for the blindfolded player to reach the target as soon as possible.
