Making a Magic Rabbit Lantern from Tangerine Peel
Tangerine, the most popular fruit of the winter months, is this time not only as a source of vitamins but also as an art material! If you are looking for activities that can be done at home with children, this "Light Rabbit" project is for you. It is both very enjoyable to prepare and the result is truly fascinating.
Required Materials
- 1 large tangerine
- Black felt tip pen
- A small spoon
- Battery-powered candle or phone flash (for light source)
How to do it step by step?
1. Prepare the Tangerine Peel:
Open a small lid from the top of the tangerine. Remove the tangerine slices one by one using a spoon, without damaging the peel. The trick is to keep the shell intact!
2. Draw the Rabbit Figure:
Dry the outer surface of the shell with a napkin. Then draw a cute bunny face and long ears on it with a felt tip pen. If you wish, you can also add different patterns such as stars or hearts.
3. Time to Turn the Lights Off!
Now we come to the most magical part. Place a battery-powered candle inside the tangerine or sit it on a lantern. When you darken the room, the orange texture of the tangerine peel will filter the light and make the rabbit figure shine.
💡 A Little Tip: If you make small holes on the shell with a needle or toothpick, the light will leak out like a star and create a more impressive image.
What Does This Activity Bring to Children?
- Fine Motor Skills: Removing the inside of a tangerine without peeling it exercises the hand muscles.
- Creativity: Designing your own flashlight increases self-confidence.
- Recycling: Teaches how waste materials can be transformed into a work of art.
